1) The house is the home for the notes.  What am I talking about? Think of it as the house is the piece of music where the notes live.

2) The walls of a house separate all the rooms and keep the notes contained within a particular room.  Relating to music, the rooms are measures and the walls are the bar lines.  Each room/measure has the same amount of beats–as provided by the notes.  To keep things simple we are saying that a quarter note is 1 beat, half note is 2 beats and whole note is 4 beats.  So each room in our home has 4 beats.

3) A double bar line in our piece tells us that it is finished.  In my home I consider the roof to act at the double bar line that finishes are house.
